Excursion Oasis of Id Aïssa and Amtoudi
Destination Departure Taroudant
Nestled in the hollow of the charming oasis of Id Aïssa, Amtoudi is a small village surrounded by imposing cliffs and dominated by two historic igoudar. Nearly 300 families, living mainly from agriculture, live in the village. Palm trees, fig trees, almond trees, apricot trees, olive trees and orange trees stand alongside small corn and barley fields and vegetable gardens. The presence of man in the region dates back to more than 10,000 years before our era, as evidenced by the friezes of rock engravings featuring giraffes and elephants. But it was in the 12th century that the first populations settled down and built the fortified granaries called “agadir” or “igoudar” in the plural.
